We can do better (none / 0)

We can bring those numbers lower. Only RI has an approval in the 20s. Maybe if people knew that we pay the President approximately $1095.00 per day, and he is now taking a 5 week paid vacation (his first since, let's say, April). That vacation in just salary alone comes to approximately $38,325.00. I would hate to find out how much it costs for him to fly AF-1 there and back, how much more it probably costs to secure his ranch, etc.  Maybe a nice tv ad run across the nation with a picture of Bush chopping wood or taking a nap showing the taxpayers how a man who makes $1095/day works for them

Re: We can do better (none / 0)

Not really necessary.

The media simply showing the President doing something at the ranch has the same impact. It's the tyranny of media coverage...

His biggest problem is more that the recent legislation passed by Congress seems to have no effect against things like gas prices and other ills. So every day at the ranch is a missing opportunity for Bush to talk policy or Iraq for that matter.

48 percent approval for Bush in Indiana (none / 0)

This is a telltale sign for Bush when his disapproval outweighs his approval rating in this Republican stronghold. Hopefully, this means things for Governor Mitch Daniels will start getting worse. Mitch has experienced a positive approval rating since winning the election, but his bullying is starting to wear thin. Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson is expected to challenge him in 2008, as the matchup has been setting itself up for the last couple of months. There have been squabbles between the city and the Governor's office over the new Colts stadium costs, Peterson's plan of consolidating police and fire departments in Indianapolis, and school funding from the state. For those who don't know Mayor Bart Peterson, he won the Mayoral election in 99, becoming the first Democratic Mayor of Indianapolis in over 40 years. He has experienced approval ratings in the 70 percentile and is considered a future player in the Democratic Party. He has centrist views, but he is not as centrist as his statemate Evan Bayh. He doesn't believe in creating new taxes as he was opposed to increasing property taxes for the new Colts stadium. His intention was to build downtown casinos and add slot machines to the horse tracks to fund the project, but of course the holier than thou Republican state representatives, who like to frequent the strip club "The Red Garter", which is across the street from the statehouse, were opposed to the gambling idea. I hope he commits to running so we can get rid of Bush's Man Mitch.

Let's look at this a few other ways... (3.00 / 1)

Only 9 of 50 states or 18% approve of George Bush:

Idaho 59-36
Wyoming 58-38
Utah 57-38
Nebraska 55-42
Texas 54-43
Alabama 52-45
North Dakota 51-45
Montana 50-45
Oklahoma 50-46

1 state approves more than it disapproves but does not break the 50% line:

Mississippi 49-47

2 states break even but with approval ratings below 50%:

Louisiana 48-48
North Carolina 47-47

For a grand total of only 12 states or, 24% of the states in the Union, in which there isn't a majority disapproving of George Bush.

38 of 50 states or 76% of states disapprove of George Bush.

States disapproving of bushieboy now include those 13 original northeastern bastions of liberalism:

Indiana 48-49
Alaska 46-49
Georgia 47-51
Kansas 46-50
South Carolina 45-51
West Virginia 45-51
Arizona 45-52
South Dakota 45-52
Florida 44-53
Tennessee 43-52
Virginia 42-52
Kentucky 42-53
Arkansas 40-56

Breaking it down further:

There are 10 states that have 60% or greater disapproval ratings.

There no 0 states in which bushieboy has 60% approval.

There are 14 states with 55-59% disapproval.

There are 4 states with 55-59% approval.

There are 11 states with 50-54%disapproval.

There are 5 states with 50-54% approval.

There are 3 states in which disapproval has not yet reached 50% (all 3 at 49%) but is greater then his approval rating.

There is 1 state in which approval does not reach 50% but remains higher than disapproval.

So...

There are more states (10) with 60% or greater disapproval then there are states with 50% or greater approval.

There are more states with 55-59% disapproval then there are states that break even or approve.

There are more states with 50-54% disapproval then there are states with approval greater than disapproval.

There are only 2 southern states, Alabama and Mississippi, that approve of George Bush... and one of them at less than 50%! 2 other southern states break even at less than 50%.

George Bush's support remains in the mountain and plains states but even there it is not unanimous.

1 Dakota for, 1 Dakota against.

Texas and Oklahoma for, Kansas and Missouri against.

Nebraska for, Iowa against.

Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Utah for, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico against.

Whoops... meant to include additional numbers on these statements:

So...

There are more states (10) with 60% or greater disapproval then there are states (9) with 50% or greater approval.

There are more states (14) with 55-59% disapproval then there are states (12) that break even or approve.

There are more states (11) with 50-54% disapproval then there are states (10) with approval greater than disapproval.
